COMMAND SERGEANT MAJOR ALEXANDER L. CLIFFORD

Command Sergeant Major, Maine Army National Guard

 

Alexander L. Clifford is a native of both Deer Isle and Newport, Maine. In 1993, he graduated with honors from Kennebec Valley Community College with an Associates Degree in Accounting and an Associates Degree in Marketing/Management. He then graduated with honors from Thomas College in 1995 with a degree in Professional Business Studies, concentrating in Accounting and Computers, and in 1996 graduated from Thomas College with honors with a Master’s in Business Administration. He earned his PhD in Leadership and Organizational Change at Walden University in 2016. He is also a 2013 graduate of the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy.

 

CSM Clifford has been in the Maine Army National Guard since 1989 where he has served in a variety of assignments to include Tuba Player, Postal Clerk, Instructor, Officer Candidate Tactics NCO, BNCOC Course Manager, Operations Sergeant, First Sergeant for three separate companies, Command Sergeant Major of the 286th Battalion, Commandant of the 240th Regional Training Institute, and two separate assignments as the Operations Sergeant Major for the 120th Regional Support Group. He was deployed to Afghanistan in 2009 and Europe in 2022.  


CSM Clifford’s previous civilian employment has ranged from being the Vice President of Academics and Student Affairs/Chief Academic Officer of Maine College of Health Professions in Lewiston, Dean of Academics for Washington County Community College, Professor of Business at Kennebec Valley Community College, college textbook author, and adjunct faculty for several colleges. Additionally, he co-owned rental properties and a Laundromat with his wife Tina. She is now part owner of Surette Real Estate in Waterville.  He currently lives in Benton, Maine with his wife Tina, has three children Brittany, Courtney and Anna, and 3 grandchildren Chandler, Carter, and Beverly.
