Colonel James E. Young
Chief of Staff MEARNG - (ME) Joint Force Headquarters (JFHQ) Augusta, ME
COL Young is a native of Hartford, Maine. He is a
Distinguished Military Graduate of Norwich University where he received a
Regular Army commission as an Infantry officer in 1996. In 2008 he transferred
from Active Duty to the National Guard Active Guard Reserve (AGR) T10 program
and in 2013 accepted an offer to serve with the Maine Army National Guard (MEARNG)
as a T32 AGR.
COL Young was appointed the Chief of Staff, MEARNG on January
8, 2024. Prior to this assignment, he served as the Commander, 120th Regional
Support Group, MEARNG.
His previous assignments include: Director of Strategic
Plans and Policy, G5, MEARNG; Director of Logistics, G4, MEARNG; Commander, 286th
Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, MEARNG; Deputy Commanding Officer, 120th
RSG, MEARNG; Operations Officer, 120th RSG, MEARNG; Deputy G4, ARNG,
NGB; QA Branch Chief, Operational Contracting, NGB; Plans and Operations
Officer, 60th Anniversary of the Korean War Commemoration Committee,
HQDA DCS G2; Future Technology Officer, G-4/5/7, HQDA DCS G4; Deputy
Maintenance Branch Chief, G4, ARNG, NGB; Commander, HHC, 2d Corps Materiel
Management Command, 1st COSCOM; S4, DIVARTY, 10th Mtn Div

Baltics, Iraq, Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, Bosnia-Herzegovina, and the Republic of
Korea.
COL Young has a Mechanical Engineering BS from Norwich
University, a Homeland Security Management MS from the University of Maryland
University College, and a Master of Strategic Studies as a Superior Graduate
from the U.S. Army War College.
COL Young’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star
Medal, seven Meritorious Service Medals, four Army Commendation Medals, the Expert
Infantryman’s Badge, Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge and the Army Staff
Identification Badge.
COL Young, his wife, their two children and lots of critters
currently reside in Bowdoin, Maine.
