COMMAND SERGEANT MAJOR Kameel Farag

Command Sergeant Major, Maine Army National Guard

 

CSM Kameel Farag enlisted on 13 March 1998 as a member of B Company, 133rd ECB (H).

                His last assignment was as the Command Sergeant Major for the 120th Regional Support Group, while concurrently serving as the Operations Sergeant Major.  His previous assignments include Command Sergeant Major of the Recruiting and Retention Battalion, Operations Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) for the 133rd  Engineer Battalion, First Sergeant and Operations NCO of the 136th Engineer Company, Operations NCO for the 52nd Troop Command, Platoon Sergeant and Operations NCO for Headquarters, Headquarters Company and  Forward Support Company, 133rd Engineer Battalion, and the 1035th Survey and Design Team; as well as a wide-ranging variety of staff assignments at multiple companies, battalion, and brigade levels. He deployed to Iraq as a Team Leader in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom II from 2004-2005. During this deployment, he served as lead convoy driver for the company’s convoys, and assisted multiple infantry, military police, civil affairs, long range surveillance, and tactical human intelligence teams as a translator. Later he would deploy to Afghanistan from 2013-2014 as an Operations NCO and Platoon Sergeant in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. He has supported multiple DSCA missions across the region and further, from various operational and leadership roles and has served in an active status for the last 23 years.

                His military education includes the Sergeants Major Academy (Superior Academic Achievement), Combat Engineer Senior Leaders Course (Distinguished Honor Graduate), Combat Engineer Advanced Leaders Course (Distinguished Honor Graduate), Warrior Leader Course (Distinguished Honor Graduate), Master Resilience Trainer, SHARP Certification Course, Antiterrorism Officer Basic Course, Operations Security Level II, Radiation Safety Officer, and several others. He also holds an undergraduate certificate in Leadership and Workforce Development from the US Army Command and General Staff College.

His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (3 OLC), Army Commendation Medal (3 OLC), Army Achievement Medal (1 OLC), Army Good Conduct Medal (7th award),  Iraq Campaign Medal (2 CS), Afghanistan Campaign Medal (1 CS), Meritorious Unit Commendation (1 OLC),  the Combat Action Badge, Air Assault Badge, and several other badges, Federal and State awards, including 24 Physical Fitness Awards. He also is a recipient of the Bronze deFleury Medal.

CSM Farag lives in Sidney with the coolest person he knows, his daughter, Liv, a student at Bowdoin College. They have an 11-year-old chocolate lab, Murphy who still thinks he’s a puppy, and Percy, an orange cat who is a dictator, but mostly benevolent.
